This game file talks to Claude to chart any song you search for. Paste your Anthropic API key once (create one at console.anthropic.com under API keys). It stays in this browser only.
This preview on claude.ai can't use your microphone or reach the music databases, so song lookup and the mic work in the game on your phone or computer (yoshujop.github.io/strum-jam). The song library and song codes work here.
Song search: Apple iTunes Search API. Chord data: Chordonomicon (Kantarelis et al., 2024), CC BY-NC 4.0, looked up through ListenBrainz, Spotify and Hugging Face, and Hooktheory TheoryTab data (Donahue, Thickstun & Liang, 2022), CC BY-NC-SA 3.0; the adapted chord data in this page is shared under the same license. Note recognition: Basic Pitch (Spotify, Apache-2.0).
Choose an artist. Their real albums become up to three eras, each with three guitar-friendly songs checked against real chord charts, and a stage for every chapter of their story. Clear an era to unlock the next one.
Song lookup works without a key. Songs that aren't in the chord datasets, and Story mode, use Claude: through Strum Jam's shared lookup service (a few free lookups a day; every answer is saved for all players), or with your own Anthropic API key, which skips those limits. The key stays in this browser only.
With your own key, Claude reads chord sources on the web only for songs that aren't in the chord datasets, or whose dataset chart doesn't match the recording (web search must be allowed for your organization in the Claude Console: Settings → Privacy → Web search).
A backup for songs the search gets wrong. Copy a chord sheet from any site and paste it here. Strum Jam keeps only the chord names and section labels, and ignores every line of words.
Pluck one string at a time and let it ring. Each string turns green once it's in tune. Tap a string to hear its target note.
